Who am I?

Jeff Block

Guess we’ve always got get that question out in the open, don’t we?

People define themselves many ways…  by job, by geography, by family, by friends, by faith.  It all makes up who we are.  And of course, there’s the inevitable reality of the gap between who we are and who we want to be.  It’s just easy to dream of a totally different reality than the … er … real one.  So, I’ll try not to do that.

  • I’m a Christian.  My faith is very important to me.  The hardest thing I’ve ever experienced is trying to elevate God to a place of personal Godship.  With so many other things around to worship, it’s no wonder we needed a Savior.  So, if I’m working on anything, it’s to make my relationship with God more important than my faith.  He who has ears to hear, let him hear.
  • I’m a husband.  My family is important to me too.  I’m married.  Her name is Faith.  No kids, but we hope to some day.  Some day’s coming pretty soon, I guess, because I’ve already been booted out of my old office into the basement with all the spiders.  Anyone watched Office Space lately?  (Or the more colorful / funny version is here.)
  • I’m all about community.  At work and at church, the word “community” is in my title.  I like gathering people together.  I like thinking about people problems.  I guess I just like people.
  • I’m a nerd.  Can’t shut off the brain; hoping to someday stop wanting to.  It’s a gift from God, but every gift has a set of associated curses.  Not synical.  Just a truth about life.  I tend to apply my nerdiness to computers most of the time, but I love philosophy, politics, economics.  I’m pretty much ready to discuss anything.
  • I’m opinionated.  Okay, maybe it goes beyond “discuss” to “debate”, but that’s just the reality of the thing.  I listen to a lot of talk radio — particularly Bill O’Reilly, because I think he’s pretty even-keeled, thinks things through well, serves the roll of watchdog pretty well, and seems to line up with my views pretty often.

I’m a lot of other things, I guess, but not tonight.  Gotta get some ZZZ’s.  This is a decent entry.  Plus, I guess “the rest of the story” will just require further reading.

If you’re looking for who everybody else is, here are a few links that you’ll want to check out:  Faith Block (my wife), Mike Block (my brother), and others coming soon.

Hi Jeff. I’m a 44yr old father of 5 children, husband of 1 beautiful wife. Second marriage for both of us. We came together mainly because we were both headed the same direction, towards God. We both got custody of our kids, our ex’s don’t seem to be too concerned with the spiritual upbringing of our children, but luckily, they don’t fight our desire for it. My wife is in the process of schooling for youth activities director, it is her calling, although she fought it tooth and nail for a good year. I’m involved in a mens accountability group, and I’m trying to get a puppet ministry off the ground. I have to sign off, the kids are up, and I need to get them ready for school. Later brother.

Jeff,

This will be short but I just had to say HI and tell you how much I enjoy your web sites. I am also a Christian. I am 47 years old and I live in Wildomar, California. I would love to talk sometime and/or email and become friends. I have alot of time to spend reading and surfing the net etc. I became disabled earlier this year and I spend alot of time in my home. Ok, I said this would be short and I have to stick to that because if I don’t I’ll be up all night typing and reading.

Until next time my Christian Brother,
David.

Hi Jeff,
I came upon your blog by referencing Shekinah Home. We are also adopting from here. Just received our referral two weeks ago. I would like to ask you more questions but not on open forum. Would you or your wife email me? Thanks for the info about the home and pictures- I am overwhelmed by the prayers that have been answered already in our adoption process- God is Good!!!!
