About
An “about” page… Hmm… I guess every self-respecting website needs one, right? I think this page will be 1) short, and 2) less about me and more about my blog.
Why am I blogging? Well, to start with, it’s important to note that I’m not at all consistent. If you’re looking for a novel to read every day about someone else’s life, this is the wrong place for you. I have a lot to say but a lot more to do, so it typically leaves little time for daily pontification online. Plus, I’m working on being a little more reserved with my opinion on occasion. I’m also working on not bashing my inner circle of friends over the head with my opinions all the time, so I’ll direct my head-bashing at you instead … whoever you are.
I started my blog back in the days of Capable Networks, a company I worked at for a couple years. Not sure if you’ve heard of them. They’re the guys who brought us TechLore and a whole string of other online communities to help us navigate the complex world of consumer electronics. There are actually some really good communities in their network, run by Matt Whitlock and Pete Redmer, two fantastic guys that know a lot about that stuff and do a great job moderating their communities. Anyway, I was part of the core group that launched CN as a startup, having invented an engine that works behind the scenes of their community platform. The engine functions using a concept called “Intelligent Scoring“. As one of the inventors, I kicked off a blog on the whole thing which we ultimately let die, but that got me to thinking… “Don’t have much of a purposeful web presence out there, do you Jeff?”
So, this blog (as well as an overhaul of my website and the creation of a presence on Facebook (on which I am extremely active), MySpace (not so active), LinkedIn (very valuable business networking tool), Naymz (almost useless), but helps my Google ranking), and a few other places. Here are links if you’re interested…
- Jeff Block’s home on the web
- Jeff Block on Facebook
- Jeff Block on LinkedIn
- Jeff Block on MySpace
- Jeff Block on Naymz
- Jeff Block on TechLore
Anyway, this blog is all the personal stuff that has nothing to do with Intelligent Scoring, my current company Capstone Consulting, or anything else business-y for that matter. This is just a spot online for me to spout my ideas.
Well, most of my ideas. If you want to see Jeff’s official, somewhat stuffy, never offensive, starched-collar business-oriented presence on the web, that’s NOT here. Check out www.jeffblock.com for all that jazz, or LinkedIn, where I maintain business connections.
If you want to see pictures of my family or links to the inevitable YouTube video or such, here’s the place, or Facebook. If you want to follow my family’s journeys in life, such as with the adoption of our son John, that’s here too. If you want to read / participate in my inane rants about politics, culture, religion, philosophy, technology, or just about any other thing, you’ve come to a good place to do it. And I don’t just want to rant alone either. I’d love your insight and opinions.
Okay. To recap…
- If it’s Intelligent Scoring, it’s here.
- If it’s Jeff’s official presence on the web, it’s here.
- If it’s all about business, it’s here.
- If it’s anything else about me, it’s here.
And we’re off… Hope you enjoy.
I spent the almost the last two hours reading your many different blogs. I laughed, I cried, and thought that you are by far one of the most intelligent (did I spell that right) people I know. WOW! I thought I liked MySpace because I love reading blogs – now I can just come to your site! Ha… how do you like being compared to MySpace? I’m so glad that you and your awesome, loving, serving wife are considered family to me and mine. I love you guys!
Jeff,
My name is Dan Douglas. I live in Lexington, SC and we just got back from an amazing trip to Israel on January 5th. I just ran across your blog and wanted to tell you that you’ve done such a great job documenting your trip.
Our itineraries were very similar…
My company is Capital Software Consultants, Inc…. Capital Software / Capstone Consulting… Coincidence? Ha!
